Approach

I enjoy collaboratively working from a place of mutual respect and trust for folks who find themselves struggling with creating balance and meaning to their lives amongst a myriad of stressors and societal pressures to conform to unhealthy standards; particularly I am speaking to those who are LGBTQIA+ identifying, a combat veteran, or a man seeking relief from toxic masculinity, anti-blackness or have an interest in anti-racism. I recognize living in such a state can bring about a sense of confusion and reliance on coping in destructive ways such as excessive worry, suppression of emotions, negative self-talk, isolation, and distancing yourself from loved ones through intentional conflict. My intentions in our work are aimed at creating lasting change. I use interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and practice from harm reduction and trauma-informed frameworks. I conduct sessions by first recognizing differences in culture and identity, acknowledging race as a construct that creates a system of privilege and access such that experiences of discrimination often create stress, chronic pain, anxiety, depression as well as continued suffering of historical trauma.

About me

I am a cisgender, white male, and was born in Louisiana and raised in Florida. I left the Sunshine (and humidity) State behind over a decade ago to explore more progressive spaces and a healthy share of outdoor experiences. My hobbies include cooking and baking from an array of cuisines that requires building an international pantry of sauces and spices while also enjoying movement that is restorative and promotes mindful states of being like running, hiking, kayaking and bouldering. As an appreciator of excellent storytelling, immersing myself in works of fiction and films of all eras and genres is where you’ll find me escaping for indoor self-care.

Training

I have a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington, specializing in medically-integrated mental health care.

I am a Strong Star Network Provider in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) serving veterans and military families. I have been trained in the fidelity model of Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) directly from the developer David Jobes, PhD and Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA) from the Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress. I am also trained in  Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) , as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and use these modalities to help others live more authentic, value-driven lives, and to restore a sense of hope after experiences of trauma.
